Oramorph is a brand name for liquid morphine sulfate, a strong opioid painkiller. It is usually supplied as an oral solution (liquid) and is available only on prescription. It is used to treat moderate to severe pain, especially when weaker painkillers are not effective. It may also be prescribed in low doses to relieve severe breathlessness in some people with advanced heart or lung disease.

It works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, reducing the sensation of pain. Because it is a liquid, it starts working relatively quickly—often within 30 to 60 minutes.

Common side effects include:

• Sleepiness or drowsiness
• Constipation
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Itching

Serious side effects include slow or difficult breathing, severe drowsiness, or confusion. These require immediate medical attention. Morphine can also cause physical dependence and, if used for a long time, should not be stopped suddenly without medical advice.
